70th BIRTHDAY LUNCH & RIVERSIDE WALK
Sunday 13th March, 2011. I had a lovely day out with the family where we gathered for my 70th birthday lunch. The Swan Hotel is at Streetly, which is a twin village to Goring On Thames. The Swan Hotel once belonged to the late Danny La Rue a well known comedian who dressed up in drag. The hotel was a favourite spot for many entertainers during those years. It sits by a Barge basin to the river Thames where there was a mill. A lock controlls the movements of boats too and from the Thames. The two villages are served by alocal station, Goring & Streatley, which is on the London (Paddington) to Bristol main line.
After our lunch we enjoyed a walk around the area and the riverside. It was one of the first fine, sunny days since the long Winter and we enjoyed a lovely late sunshine. Daffodils and Crocuses added a nice bit of colour.
